The
Jet-Lag
For business or holidays, long trips in air planes are often painful. With the
narrowness of room reserved to the travellers, add the nuisances caused by the time zones which effects are prolonged during several days.

To travel across the time zones causes a pathological syndrome called " jet-lag ". It can cause more or less awkward
effects : asthenia, disorder sleep
disorders of mood, the disorders such as fatigue, disorientation, fuzziness, becoming irrational or unreasonable, broken sleep after arrival, dehydration, discomfort of
legs and feet ...
These symptoms are all the more accentuated that the number of crossed time zones are numerous. The phenomenon becomes really awkward beyond five crossed time
zones (i.e. between Europe or Africa and Americas or Asia). All the passengers feel the effects of
the jet-lag but the gravity of the symptoms and the time of recovery, vary enormously from one
person to another. Moreover, the problems increase with elderly persons. It takes generally more time to restore balance during travels towards the east than towards the
west (with the outward journey as with the return).
In general, the symptoms disappear gradually in a few days but more quickly if one can manage this disorder.

The " jet-lag " breaks the internal clock (24 hours
cycle) which daily governs our body. In the morning, when daylight intensifies the
levels of melatonin decrease and we wake up. The functions of our body are synchronized with our cycles of sleeping/awaking and throughout the day based on our practices
(wake up, meals ..., sleep). After a long travel, our biological clock can mix the days and the nights. In particular these
disorders are caused by the absence of light, certain enzymes located in pineal gland (located under the brain) are activated and the sleep appears.
This phenomenon is also met among people who work at irregular hours or during the night but everyone
suffer from the same level. Medicine is
interested recently in this very complex phenomenon and new drugs appeared. Thus, tablets of melatonin would bring to the body a supplement
of hormone and easier our clock adjustment. Our body " would thus more quickly readjust " its internal clock.

This natural substance " the melatonin " that the body uses to regulate the quality of the sleep is still prohibited in certain countries
because all the effects are not yet known. In the countries where it is widespread, the users find many virtues to this product : easier sleep and more refreshing that
ordinary sleeping pills, prevention of the deterioration of the brain caused by ageing and the free radicals, positive reaction with the activity of the immune system during
sleeping.
Many research are on the way to evaluate the side effects which could cause this fashion pill. Take care for the moment.
